The Wedding Dresser is a collective of Brooklyn-based fashion and costume designers, each with their own unique specialties and backgrounds. We are also a design incubator providing real-world hands-on sewing experience in bridal design, evening wear, and couture techniques to students from the Fashion Institute of Technology in a for-credit internship program.

At The Wedding Dresser, we are keeping the art of fine dressmaking alive by hiring highly skilled costume and fashion designers who can practice their couture techniques while supporting their own design work. Pairing our pros with bridal design students in a production setting keeps these couture techniques alive while giving our clients a trusted source for perfecting their tailoring and styling their look.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to take the stress out of dressing for your wedding or special event. At The Wedding Dresser, you’ll have a designer’s eye on your fitting and fabulous styling by our trained stylists, you’ll leave our studio feeling your confident best.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Every guest at Something Bleu works with a dedicated stylist to guide them through the process of finding the perfect wedding dress. The one-hour appointment takes place in a private fitting room. First walk through the bridal ballroom is an intimate experience between stylist & bride only.

All designers featured are made to order. Please allow 4-6 months. Rush charges can be incurred for less than 5 months. Our collections begin at $1800 and range to $6000.

Shopping is by appointment only – Brides can bring up to 4 guests.

ABOUT SIZING

All of our gowns are custom order based on a designer size chart, or made to measure, followed by alternations to make it the ideal fit for your body. Our sample gowns range from bridal size 8-24.

THE HISTORY OF SOMETHING BLEU

The inspiration for Something Bleu Bridal began in the backroom of another store on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, NY, called The Bird of Paradise. Denise Eliopulos, the owner and creator, had been looking for a wedding gown for herself.

Marissa Mackay was a Something Bleu bride in 2010,  and purchased the salon in 2018.

Marissa has stayed true to the roots of Something Bleu while also making sure to seek out special modern twists to constantly curate a collection of gowns as unique as Something Bleu’s story.

Bridal styling appointments include your very own private bridal suite and a personal bridal stylist.

Leah McDaniel is the Owner, Creative Director and founder of Black Swan Floral Design (formerly known as Black Sheep Gardens) – a floral design studio in Upstate NY. The business started as a collaboration with her mother, Pamela Miller, who owned Black Sheep Barn and Gardens – an organic flower and vegetable farm (of 30+ years) in West Chazy, NY.

The mother daughter duo decided to combine their talents and enthusiasm for art and nature by focusing on event design in upstate NY and VT. Mother, wife, designer, and animal enthusiast, Leah has a need to constantly grow and learn by forming and reforming her style through workshops, life experiences, and inspiration from her clients. She is obsessed with looking for fresh ideas and creative ways to showcase the beauty of flowers and nature. All doing so while being conscientious of her foot print and working with as much sustainable product and mechanics as possible.

With every wedding comes incredible excitement to begin a new journey with an amazing couple. Celebrating love, by creating a story with flowers is a dream come true.  She considers herself one of the lucky ones to find and love her best friend, start a family, and have a career that feeds the soul continuously.

Castle Ballroom

Our 4,400-square foot Castle Ballroom can accommodate groups of up to 250 people. The Castle Ballroom offers a complete, spectacular view of Seneca Lake with easy access to beautifully manicured lawn throughout the day (includes handicap access). The Ballroom includes a full, extended indoor and outdoor bar, a 23′ x 24′ dance floor and plenty of space for vendors and additional needs. The Castle Ballroom includes its own restrooms for ladies and gentleman (both are handicap accessible).

Our No Venue Fee Promise

We don’t charge you another hundred or thousand dollar fee like other venues just to rent the physical space of the ballroom. We simply don’t believe in it. It’s unheard of in the industry, and we’re proud of this promise.

Customized Menus

We don’t use the word Wedding “Packages” because we simply don’t have them. We want YOU to customize YOUR day. We don’t have set packages because we know every couple has different tastes, different visions and different budgets. You’re not a cookie-cutter couple. So why would we sell you on a cookie-cutter package? You decide what you want to offer for appetizers, entrees, late night stations and more. We’re here to help guide you, but not decide for you.

Kris founded unKAGed events after planning her own wedding. While planning events for friends, family and within her activist community as a side hustle for over a decade, Kris has also been a marketing executive, nonprofit event coordinator, farmer, and music festival planner. Kris’ background gives her a unique perspective on each wedding she plans, and her attention to detail is second to none.

While planning her own wedding, she struggled with being told what she could and could not do. She helps couples who want to break free from the wedding rules “cage” (unKAGed is a play on her initials as well as her approach to planning and design) and really showcase their personalities.

Everything she does is to provide each unique couple with an exceptional experience from start to finish. She truly wants you to have the day you envision, and her job is to provide you with the resources and support to do just that.

An Unrivaled Setting

Wave Hill’s acclaimed gardens and spectacular views of the Hudson River provide the perfect setting for weddings, rehearsal dinners and other special celebrations.

Weddings & Private Events

Ceremonies take place at the Pergola on the Great Lawn or directly below on our expansive Lower Lawn. Cocktail hour can be hosted on either the Great Lawn, Lower Lawn, or the Kate French Terrace at historic Wave Hill House. The terrace attached to Wave Hill House is two-thirds covered with a three-season semi-permanent tent. 

Weddings at Wave Hill

Seated dinners are held in Armor Hall with capacity capped at 130 guests if plans include a small band and dance floor in the Hall. If you choose to locate the dance floor in the adjacent Mark Twain Room, the capacity increases to 180 seated guests. Dinner al fresco is also an option on the Lower Lawn, weather permitting, for an additional surcharge.

Weddings at Wave Hill take place only in the evenings with ceremonies beginning at 6pm or later, after the gardens have closed to the public at 5:30pm. Only one evening event is booked per date to ensure your event’s exclusivity.

Reserving Wave Hill for your wedding requires a Partner Contribution at the $10,000 level. The tax-deductible portion is $9,748, and provides the wedding host with one year of Sustainer Partner Member benefits. In addition to the Membership fee, the rental fee for a weekend date is $6,000. All celebrations end at midnight due to the residential nature of our neighborhood. October ceremony time may be adjusted to accommodate early sunsets.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony would take place on the Kate French Terrace. The Terrace can hold up to 135 seated guests, and a larger guest count requires installing a tent extender through our exclusive tent provider, Greenwich Tent.

A guest count of 180 or more requires that a tent be installed on our Lower Lawn. The Membership fee increases to $25,000, and the rental fee is $10,000. Our exclusive tent vendor can install a basic tent, and with permits, the cost starts at around $35,000.

Wave Hill as a public garden first and foremost only allows 2 tented events per year, which must be secured at the time of initial contract.

Winter weddings scheduled from January 2 through March 31 are available for an off-season rate of a $7,500 Membership fee and $3,500 site fee. The guest count is capped at 125.

Wave Hill’s exclusive caterer for over 30 years, Great Performances is dedicated to collaborating with you to create a personalized, quality experience for your guests. Passionate about culinary presentation, menus are customized to enrich the occasion. Pricing begins at $350 per person (based on a 150-person guest count), and includes menu, bar service, and staffing.

Great Performances will then work as liaison between the client and Party Rental Ltd., to secure all rentals, with pricing beginning at $100 per person. Kosher Catering options are also available at an additional fee to Great Performances, who provide beverage service and event staffing. Please click below to view a sample menu.

Onsite parking is available, and events with a car count of more than 20 vehicles require valet service. A minimum of month-long event planner services is required for all weddings, and a preferred vendor list is available upon request.

Ceremony-only options are welcome Monday through Friday for up to 125 guests, from 6pm until 7:30pm. The membership fee for this special ceremony is $2,500, and the site fee is $2,000.

The left sidebar contains Wedding Events; all upcoming Bridal Shows/Expos, as well as Trunk Shows. Below this, you will find all Wedding Services listed by category.

Once a category in Wedding Services is selected, you will find several filters on the left side of the page. You can search by region or county as well as several other filters which are specific to that vendor category. By checking multiple boxes in these filters, couples are able to narrow their search results to align with their specific needs by location, price, services offered, etc.

Pages where you find multiple listings, referred to as the grid – are set to display relevant information at a glance. Selecting a specific business will take you to their details page.
